Irish Senior Connect Line March 12, 2012 ^
The launch of the Irish Senior Connect helpline will take place on Friday the 16th of March at the Irish Pastoral Centre of Boston from 10 AM to Noon. Special guest for the event will be Frances Fitzgerald, Irish Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, who is visiting Boston to participate in the Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations.
The Irish Senior Connect program is dedicated to providing a listening ear and a response that conveys empathy and respect, so that every senior who calls will feel welcomed, supported and helped by a caring network of friends. Our aim is that no senior should ever feel isolated or alone. The project is a listening and information service of the Coalition of Irish Immigration Centers, a national umbrella group for all of the Irish Immigration Centers in the United States. The CIIC seeks to promote the welfare of Irish immigrants in the United States at a national level. The Irish Pastoral Centre in Dorchester, MA was chosen to be the host site, based on the extensive outreach services already being provided to Irish immigrant families. Grant monies have been generously provided by The American Ireland Fund for the U.S. project which has been modeled on a very successful senior helpline begun in County Meath, Ireland in 1998 and which continues throughout all of Ireland today.
Please come and join us for the launch festivities, and help us to welcome Minister Fitzgerald to the IPC!
